The Continental Congress appointed Robert Mullan to raise two companies of Marines. Mullan also was the proprietor of the Tunn Tavern in Philadelphia. The tavern is where most of these first two companies were recruited at. Hence the reference in the earlier posted joke. Tunn Tavern is the birthplace of the Marines.
